Public trust in the realtors has been eroded by the myth of gigantic proportions. The myth is that every realtor is wealthy because they sell many homes each year. The public assumes that money is rolling in for these professionals when they view a realtor driving a luxury car, frequently dining at expensive restaurants, and dressing immaculately.
But the truth is far behind. Generally, every major city in the US has hundreds of realtors but the number of homes is limited for sale. There is a limit as to how many homes even a good realtor can sell every year because selling a home is a significant undertaking that requires time and labor.
So, How Many Houses Do Real Estate Agents Sell a Year
Per year only a small portion of realtors sell larger than a hundred homes. The majority of the realtors sell between 2-10 homes a year. Usually, the least number of homes are sold by first-year or those that are just starting as realtors. Availability, work ethics, dedication, team backup, and ability are one of the factors that depend on the increasing number of transactions each year.
In fact, one has to work for it to sell a home. Clients interact with someone they trust they don’t call typically any realtor out of the blue. For the first year or just starting realtors, they have to actively build on leads, develop a solid client base and aggressively market themselves.
To make a living a realtor only needs to sell a few homes each year with high home prices and a commission rate of 4-8%. If a realtor needs to become wealthy so in this case one needs to sell dozens of homes each year. There are some lucky realtors who deal with the high-end real estate market and end up selling one mansion each year which can lead to a good income.
Among first-year realtors, there is a tremendous variation in the number of transactions and income. But part of the problem is that the current data mostly don’t mention if the realtor is working full-time or part-time. Considering the average income for the realtors is $50,000. Anyhow $30,000 to $300,000 are the income that is often reported.
However, lower incomes also exist which is due to the following reasons:
- Poor work ethics
- Working part-time
- Lack of effort
- Not being available consistently
But for those who work hard and work full time with dedication, their income can be 2-3 times more than this amount of money. Like for any profession the harder you work the greater you get financial rewards.
However, the commission for a realtor varies between 4% to 8%. Realtors also have many expenses that have to be paid from the commission while this may seem like this is a lot of money for selling only one home.
