A new house in California is a different object from a house built decades ago, and the biggest differences are not the ones buyers notice on a tour. They are the life-safety systems built into the structure.
For anyone building in Claremont, and particularly anywhere near the foothills, these requirements shape the design, the budget, and the schedule. Better to meet them at the drawing stage than at inspection.
Residential fire sprinklers
Automatic fire sprinkler systems have been part of the requirements for new residential construction in California for some time, and they can also be triggered by certain additions and alterations. On long or steep driveways this can become one of the more significant costs on a project, and it is set by requirements rather than by preference.
